RIRS is the most advanced, minimally invasive laser surgery for kidney stones. It is performed completely through the body's natural urinary tract, meaning no surgical incisions, no stitches, and no scars.
During the procedure, Dr. Ankit Chauhan uses a highly advanced, ultra-thin flexible ureteroscope. This scope is passed through the urethra and bladder directly up into the kidney. Once the stone is located visually on a high-definition monitor, a Holmium or Thulium laser is fired to pulverize the stone into fine dust, which is then safely washed out or passed naturally.
Ideal for patients on blood thinners or those with bleeding disorders.
Most patients go home the very next day and resume normal life quickly.
Flexible scope reaches stones in complex lower pole areas of the kidney easily.
No puncture in the kidney means maximum preservation of renal function.
Post-surgery, a temporary internal stent (DJ Stent) is usually placed to help the kidney heal and allow the dust to pass smoothly. You will be advised to drink plenty of water. The stent is painlessly removed in the OPD after 1 to 2 weeks.
